You’re no longer limited to eating chicken and rice or gulping a protein shake to replenish your muscles after a workout.
Protein bars are one of the most convenient ways to get your protein in. They come in many different flavours and require zero preparation. It’s no wonder that protein bars have become so popular with gym-goers as a way to fuel workouts and help to build muscle.
But with so many different protein bar brands to choose from, which one should you go for? That’s where Grenade Carb Killa protein bars come into play.
Grenade Carb Killa protein bars really are an epic high-protein, low-sugar snack. These tasty protein bars can help you feel fuller when you’re on a diet, boost your performance during workouts and support muscle growth & repair post-workout.
These bars are not just limited to workouts. You can eat them at any time of the day, for example as a mid-day treat or an on-the-go snack. Remember, working out can make you stronger and fitter, but training is only half the battle – having the right nutrition and sticking to your macros will significantly improve your results.
These bars can really help you hit your targets without overindulging and ruining your macros.
Simply put, Grenade Carb Killa protein bars are:
High in protein
Packing up to 24g of protein in each bar makes them the ultimate snack if you’re trying to increase your protein intake.
Protein has been shown to be the most filling nutrient. If you’re on a strict diet, Carb Killa bars can help to satisfy your cravings without overstepping your macros.
Low in sugar
We all get cravings. The sweet tooth can sometimes get the best of us, making it really hard to stop yourself from ruining your diet.
Fortunately, you don’t have to worry about this happening too much with Carb Killa bars. Each protein bar contains an average of 2g of sugar – an equivalent of just half a teaspoon!
We’ve all seen those pictures of how much sugar is in our favorite fizzy drinks. A 330ml can of Coke contains as much as 9 teaspoons of sugar! It really shows just how good Grenade Carb Killa bars are when it comes to low-sugar snacks.
Eat them anywhere, anytime
Most people eat a Grenade Carb Killa protein bar post-workout to aid muscle growth & repair.
But eating one at any time can still provide you with a load of benefits. Protein can reduce your hunger levels, which makes these bars an excellent midday snack. Feeling fuller can really help you maintain weight loss!
Protein can also reduce cravings and stop you from any late-night snacking. So, wherever you are make sure to keep one on you just in case!
And the best part? They are REALLY tasty. Each Grenade Carb Killa bar is triple layered and coated in chocolate for a quintessential taste sensation.
But with 12 flavours to choose from, which Grenade Carb Killa flavour is the best? I recently ordered this Grenade Carb Killa Selection Box from Amazon to find out. It features 12 x 60g Grenade Carb Killa protein bars with different flavours.
In this article me and my team will review the best Grenade Carb Killa flavours in 2020!
We will review the best grenade protein bar flavours in order, but if you want to know about a specific flavour, you can skip straight the review below:
Jaffa Quake
Macros per bar: 215kcal, 21.8g protein, 2g sugar, 7.9g fat
Jaffa cakes are my favorite so I was quite excited to try the Jaffa Quake flavour.
This bar actually tastes like Jaffa Cakes, which I was really happy about. Some of the Grenade Carb Killa bars don’t fully taste like what the name says they should – but the Jaffa Quake really does! The taste isn’t artificial, which I am a big fan of.
One thing I was disappointed about was the lack of a jelly layer, like what you would find in a Jaffa Cake. Still, it’s a guilt free treat snack that serves as the perfect pick me up after your workout or to help you power through that afternoon slump.
Overall, the Jaffa Quake is easily one of my favourite Grenade Carb Killa flavours. If you’re a fan of chocolate orange, you will definitely like this one. I rate it 4.5 out of 5!
Birthday Cake
Macros per bar: 218kcal, 20g protein, 1.7g sugar, 9.5g fat
My first thoughts about the Birthday Cake bar was that it looks and smells great!
I really loved the taste of this one, because it reminded me of ice cream with hints of vanilla and white chocolate. The little sprinkles added a nice crunch to each bite, but also seemed to go everywhere as some fell off when I opened it. The overall texture was nice, though.
Still, I can see a lot of people loving the Birthday Cake flavour!
Overall I liked the Grenade Carb Killa Birthday Cake bar, but it wasn’t my favorite flavour so far. I would rate it 3.5 out of 5!
Caramel Chaos
Macros per bar: 214kcal, 23.2g protein, 1.4g sugar, 7.9g fat
I loved the milk chocolate coating with the crunchy biscuit pieces in this bar. It also has a nice, think layer of caramel and chocolate chips for added texture.
This bar has a distinct caramel flavour with small hints of chocolate. Overall, I found it softer in general compared to some of the other Grenade Carb Killa flavours. Despite the distinct caramel flavour, this bar has a good balance of taste with all of the textures going together nicely.
Overall, the texture of the bar is nice and smooth, but it could do with having a slighly thicker layer of caramel on the top. This Grenade Carb Killa flavour reminded me of a Twix biscuit, but with much better macros!
It’s very tasty, so I would rate it 4 out of 5.
Peanut Nutter
Nutrition per bar: 223kcal, 21g protein, 2g sugar, 9.3g fat
My favourite chocolate bar is Snickers, which is exactly what the smell of the Peanut Nutter reminded me of.
Taste wise, it does sort of taste like a snickers without the actual peanuts. Still, the taste of peanuts is quite distinct in this bar so if you’re not a fan – it’s probably best to stay away. On the other hand, if you love peanuts this bar is right for you!
I would rate it a good 4 out of 5.
Dark Chocolate Raspberry
Nutrition per bar: 233kcal, 20g protein, 0.9g sugar, 10g fat
This bar has a nice dark chocolate coating with chocolate chips and a layer of raspberry flavour icing. It has a lot of little pieces scattered on the top, but I couldn’t figure out what they were?
The dark chocolate and raspberry flavours go together perfectly and the soft texture of the bar is complimented by a hard crunch from all the additional small pieces. It works really well, because the taste is not too overpowering or sweet.
This Grenade Carb Killa flavour was easily one of the best I tried, so I’m rating it a solid 4.5 out of 5!
White Chocolate Cookie
Nutrition per bar: 215kcal, 22.4g protein, 2g sugar, 8.1g fat
This might just be the crunchiest bar I have tried on this list.
Coated in white chocolate and covered with chocolate chips, the cookie layer gives it a proper crunch. Despite the really low sugar content (2g), I thought that this bar a bit too sweet for my liking. But, if you’re a fan of white chocolate I think you will still like it.
I rate this bar 3.5 out of 5.
Cookies & Cream
Nutrition per bar: 217kcal, 23.3g protein, 1.5g sugar, 8.2g fat
I love Oreos, so naturally I was excited to try the Cookies & Cream flavour.
The first thing I noticed was the amazingly sweet taste. I was pleasantly surprised by this because of the bars super-low 1.5g sugar content. The texture was good, because it wasn’t too solid or stringy, so you could take a bite from it easily. I loved the caramel layer and the chocolate base.
But I must say, to me it didn’t really taste like Oreo cookies (which I associate the “Cookies & Cream” flavour with). Regardless, I still loved the taste and would have it again! And with 23g of protein and high fibre, this bar is perfect for a post-workout treat, afternoon snack or on the go.
For me, this was definitely one of the best Grenade Carb Killa flavours. I would give it 4 out of 5.
White Chocolate Salted Peanut
Nutrition per bar: 242kcal, 20g protein, 5.8g sugar, 12g fat
If you’re a fan of white chocolate and peanuts/peanut butter you will love this flavour!
The two components go together really well and oddly enough, the taste reminded me of a Kinder Egg – which I love! Texture wise, it was really nice and soft. If you like a smooth protein bar, this one will do the trick. One downside of this Grenade Carb Killa flavour is the sugar content, which is quite high (5.8g) compared to some of the other bars.
Overall, I would rate this bar 4 out of 5.
Dark Chocolate Mint
Nutrition per bar: 214kcal, 22.1g protein, 4.7g sugar, 8.5g fat
The Dark Chocolate Mint bar has a nice and smooth chocolate finish, as well as a layer of mint icing with biscuit balls. It has a similar smell to an After Eight.
Taste wise, this bar is not bad but I would say that if you’re not a huge fan of mint you won’t like it. It also has a slightly artificial taste, but the biscuit balls are a really nice addition, both texture and taste wise. Unfortunately, most of the icing in the bar had melted out at the bottom, so it might have tasted different if it was still running all the way through the bar.
I can see the direction this bar was trying to go in, but I was not a huge fan so I would rate this Grenade Carb Killa flavour 2.5 out of 5.
Fudge Brownie
Nutrition per bar: 215kcal, 23.3g protein, 4.2g sugar, 8g fat
This bar was very similar to an actual brownie. Quite thick with some crunchy chocolate crispy pieces and smooth milk chocolate coating.
If you love brownies, you will love this Grenade Carb Killa flavour. It has a soft texture, nice chocolate flavour and perfectly captures the great taste of a classic snack. I was a little bit disappointed by the slightly higher sugar content compared with the other bars, but the taste totally makes up for it!
This bar also has the highest protein content out of any Grenade Carb Killa bar (along with the Cookies & Cream flavour). I rate it a perfect 5 out of 5.
Chocolate Chip Salted Caramel
Nutrition per bar: 226kcal, 20g protein, 1.4g sugar, 9.6g fat
This Grenade Carb Killa flavour was very tasty.
Covered in loads of mini chocolate chips, it has a nice chewy caramel filling and is coated in chocolate. I liked the texture of the bar, because it wasn’t too thick or too thin.
The taste reminded me of a brownie and the mini chocolate chips gave it a nice crunch, adding another level of texture to it. Its chocolate coating was just right, but I didn’t really taste the salted caramel as much!
This Grenade Carb Killa flavour tasted more like regular caramel mixed with chocolate. It was better than some of the other salted caramel flavour protein bars I have tried in the past.
Overall, this bar has a nice taste and range of textures that work well together, but in my opinion it lacks the salted caramel taste you’d expect. I would give it 3.5 out of 5.
Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough
Nutrition per bar: 215kcal, 23g protein, 1.4g sugar, 7.9g fat
This bar looks like cookie dough covered in chocolate with a soft layer of caramel. It has plenty of chocolate chips and a nice, milk chocolate finish to it.
It tastes exactly like cookie dough with a nice touch of caramel for some additional sweetness, so if you’re a fan you will definitely love this one! It’s very low in sugar, but still tastes sweet – not too overpowering, with a nice crunch from the chocolate chips!
If you’re a fan of cookie dough, you will love this Grenade Carb Killa flavour. I rate it 4.5 out of 5.
